The weather forecast for this weekend does not look too bad. Once again the winds be up around 10 – 15 knots from the South East, but we should have a better idea of how this will pan out as we get closer to the weekend.

I hope all the school kids are enjoying the first week of the school holidays and the word on the street is that the prawns have showed up in the Burnett in the deeper holes. The quality of these banana prawns is amazing with most guys being able to secure their bag limit. A tip is to look for patches of dirty water and with a good quality sounder, locate the prawns and then start casting.

The only downside is that most people are tipping that the banana prawns will move out to sea with the full moon on Monday night, so try and make the most of it before then.

With all of the bait in the Burnett at the moment, there have been good reports of nice grunter over 50cm, more and more mangrove jack and fingermark with even a few barramundi being caught during the past week.

If there is a break in the weather, good numbers of school mackerel are all along our coastline from Woodgate through to 1770.

On the freshwater scene, we’ve heard a few fantastic reports from Cania and Wuruma dams. Wuruma dam is closer to Eidsvold and has become extremely popular with the grey nomads because you can camp right on the water. The dam has good numbers of red claw, bass, yellow belly and silver perch.

Cania dam is just north of Monto and is probably one of my favourite freshwater destinations. It has so much to offer from bushwalking to fishing. Most people stay at one of the two caravan parks located only a few kilometres from the dam. The fishing at Cania dam is brilliant at the moment with lots of bass, yellow belly and saratoga being caught all over the dam. Trolling and casting lures to the edges are two methods working well, but if you are keen for an early start, casting poppers for saratoga is always a great way to start the day.

Good luck to all of the local Bundy guys who are fishing the first round of the Barra Tour at Peter Faust dam this weekend.

Fish with confidence,
