on orders over $125The weather around the local Bundaberg area has been a bit unsettled over the past few weeks, with patches of showers and wind about. However, when the weather has been good, the fishing has been good as well.
The Elliott River has been fishing well for summer whiting, with the night time tides being the better tides to fish for these fish. Yabbies and beach worms have been a favourite bait, and the incoming tides seem to be producing the most fish.
There have been a few prawns in most of the local rivers. Don't forget, the limit is a 10 litre bucket per person.
The second of the Coral Reef Finfish closures will come into force from the 3rd November until 7th November. This closure covers all coral reef finfish species, which cannot be taken at all during this time. For a list of fish covered by this closure, drop into Tackle World Bundaberg or your local tackle shop and pick up a copy of the Recreational fishing Size and Bag Limits brochure.
The annual barra closure also is about to take place. This is from midday on the 1st November, 2010 until midday 1st February, 2011. It is prohibited to deliberately target barramundi for catch and release during these closed seasons, as the stress of capture may prevent a fish from spawning. These rules do not apply to barramundi in stocked impoundments and dams.
The Isis Impoundment has been producing some excellent bass fishing with spinnerbaits and Jackalls being the favourite lures.
Monduran is producing some great barra fishing now that the water has warmed up a little. The temperature has been sitting around 28 degrees. Soft plastics have been a big hit on the barra with Squidgy Slick Rigs and Berkley Hollow Bellies being favourties. Hard-bodied lures such as Strada lures and Rapala Xraps have also been producing the goods, as these are a nice suspending lure and the barra seem to have taken a liking to them.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't exactly perfect for the Monduran Family Fishing Classic last weekend. Although there were not many fish caught, it didn't dampen the spirits of the 600-odd anglers who attended. Les Peardon won the boat, motor and trailer and all those who were there had a great time. It really is a great family weekend.
