on orders over $125The offshore fishing has been limited due to weather conditions, as well as the recent Coral Reef Fin Fish closure. The closure has now lifted, so we’ll see what the weekend bring regarding the weather.
The inshore and estuary fishing has been fantastic lately. The mouth of the Burnett River and around the leads have been producing plenty of school mackerel, big tuna, queenfish and even some small black marlin.
The rock walls are producing some monster flathead on soft plastics with Berkly Gulp being the favourite.
Some of the deeper holes and rock walls are producing some big bream, cod, grunter and jacks. Live baits have been the best, as well as using mullet fillets as strip baits.
Up river, around the bridges, there is still some salmon – both blue and king - being caught on both lures and livies.
There is plenty of whiting in the Elliott River, mainly on evening tides using beach worms.
Lake Monduran is still fishing well with some anglers catching 5-10 barra up to 80cm per session. Wind-swept bays are delivering the goods with the best lures being Bombers and Jackall Squirrels. Cast and retrieve is the best method with short, sharp twitches mixed in with long pauses, and be ready as the barra will usually smack it on the pause.
A few people were caught out during the previous Coral Reef Fin Fish closure at the beginning of October. There is another closure due to come into place from the 11th to the 15th November. You are still able to fish below Latitude 24.50’0” during the closures, but this means that you will have to launch your boat from the Riverview boat ramp near Elliott Heads.
