on orders over $125Well, the weeks just keep passing us by and summer is fast approaching us. The warmer water temperatures have got some of the summer species on the chew already.
The upper reaches of most local river systems have been producing some big jacks, cod and some barra, mainly by live-baiting.
Be careful if you do manage to land a barra - the barra season is now closed in saltwater until midday on the 1st of February, so any you do catch must be immediately released. In the saltwater during the closed barra season you can not target barra for catch and release as this may upset their spawning cycle. Heavy penalties apply if you are caught with any.
Other species still being caught in the rivers include grunter, salmon, jew and some big fingermark. The Burnett River mouth is producing some big flathead, queenfish and trevally.
When the wind lets you get offshore there are still a good number of big red emperor being caught along with coral trout, parrot and sweetlip. Also, some big cobia and spanish mackerel are being caught in these areas.
The Isis Impoundment (Lake Gregory) is starting to fire up with big bass, with a lot of 40-45cm ones being caught on surface lures. There are some big schools of bass out in the main basin of the dam. Most of these are 25-35cm and have been caught on Blades and Jackalls.
Lake Monduran is still producing some barra in the 45-70cm size. Most of them are coming from around weed edges and large laydown timber snags, with Rapala Xrap Shads and Jackall Squirrels being the best lures so far.
