on orders over $125Due to the wind and recent rains, there has been no reef or offshore fishing being done in the local Bundaberg area, so most of the fishing has been confined to the local rivers, creeks and dams.
The upper reaches of the Burnett River are still running a bit fresh, so most of the fish have been pushed down to the cleaner, saltier water, where there's been a good number of bream, flathead and grunter caught.
The bream have been caught by targeting the rock walls with small blade lures. Flathead seem to be in good numbers around most of the sand banks and trolling small, pink hard-bodied lures seems to be a flathead favourite. The sand flats are also producing some good quality summer whiting, with yabbies as the preferred bait. Grunter have been caught on live prawns and sprat.
If we get a run of good, warm sunny days, the jack should also come on the chew. Targeting them with either live baits or deep diving hard-bodied lures, especially around the rocky areas should produce a feed.
The dirty water has pushed the mackeral away from the river mouth, but they are being caught along the coast by trolling small deep diving hard-bodied lures, in chrome and blue colours. The bait fishermen have been catching mackeral also, by floating pilchards out the back of the boat.
The Isis Impoundment(Lake Gregory) is producing some great early morning and late afternoon surface bass action with small "walk the dog" type lures and little splashing poppers. During the brighter daylight hours when the bass move a bit deeper, Jackalls, Blades and Spinnerbaits are turning on the most numbers of bass.
Meanwhile, up at Monduran, a couple of the hot days earlier in the week produced some big barra. Working the points leading into the bays seems to be the preferred spots, and slow rolling soft plastics in pearl white and bright green colours has produced some big barra.
Trolling for barra in the main basin seems to be the most popular at the moment, especially by trolling the good old Barra Classic lures.
Please be aware of the upcoming salt water barramundi closure which starts at midday on the 1st of November until midday on the 1st February. The salt water barra cannot be targeted or caught during this time. For the fresh water barra in stocked impoundments, there is a bag limit of one during this closure.
