Fish Report - 24th December, 2014

First things first – all the team here at Tackle World Bundaberg would like to wish you and your families a very safe and Merry Christmas. Hopefully you have all been very good and Santa brings you everything you wish for.

Now, the forecast for the next few days is looking great for some offshore fishing – finally!! The fish should be hungry as it has been a long while since anyone has been out wide.

A few of the inshore reefs have been producing some large spotted and Spanish mackerel. Live-baiting and trolling large minnow-type lures is the go.

Most of the river mouths in the local Bundaberg area have been producing some great sports fish such as small mackerel, trevally and some large queenfish.

The rest of the rivers have also been fishing well. Great numbers of large summer whiting have been about on most of the sand flats. Also, plenty of flathead in the 40cm to 60cm range have been caught while fishing the flats. There has still been good numbers of bream, grunter and big jacks about. Live baits such as prawns and mullet have been the go.

The rains earlier this month kicked off some crabs as well as some small prawns, and the prawns will only get better over the next month or so.

Lake Monduran is still producing a few barra for those putting in the effort. Most bays seem to be producing barra up to about 90cm. Lucky Craft Pointers and Jackall Squirrells are the hot favourite lures at the moment.

Till next time,
Tim Mulhall
