on orders over $125The weather conditions around the Bundaberg for this weekend look reasonable at the moment. With the winds expected to ease on Saturday, all forms of fishing should be worth a go.
Be aware that there may be a few thunderstorms still in the area and the amount of rain that is expected to fall may freshen up the local estuaries.
The Burnett River in the past week has produced the goods with some top quality fish being caught. Threadfin salmon, large grunter and the odd barra have all been chasing the massive amount of baitfish and prawns down toward the Port and the Burnett Heads region.
The rain should also see the prawns school up and the mud crabs start to move. There were good reports before the rain so this should only improve.
Both the Elliott and Kolan river systems are worth a look. Good reports of nice whiting, flathead and mangrove jack with a mix of good size mud and sand crabs being caught.
Offshore on the shallow reefs, mackerel and tuna have been easy to find and a lot of fun to catch. Trolling hard body lures and casting metal slugs the same size as the baitfish has been the most effective. Floating pilchards and livies unweighted has seen both pelagic and reef fish caught, with some nice snapper starting to show up on the Cochrane Artificial Reef and the Four Mile reefs closer in.
On the freshwater scene, Lake Monduran and Lake Gregory have both had good reports of barra and bass. The water temperature is still in the mid-twenties which should see the barra action continue right up until Easter.
Let’s hope the rain has helped the farmers and filled our rainwater tanks.
