on orders over $125Finally this week we've had a run of good weather around the local Bundaberg area. With 10-15 knots being the average forecast, this allowed a lot of boats to head offshore.
Some good catches were landed with a good mixed bag of red emperor, coral trout, sweetlip, parrot and the usual other mixed reef species. Pilchards seem to be the preferred bait for these bottom species. Those anglers floating out a bait around these reefy areas scored good catches of spanish mackerel and cobia.
Out a bit wider we're having a run of dolphin fish, marlin and sailfish. Trolling small skirted lures and also trolling live baits was by far the best methods.
The river mouths are starting to clear up after the fresh flush, so on the early morning top of the tide there are plenty of schoolie mackerel being taken. Most of the schoolies have been caught by trolling Predator Vibe lures. There are also a lot of small bonito mixed in with them. These little fish make great bait or are a good fish to put in a kipper box.
With a bit of salt pushing back up the local rivers river we've just started to see a good run of big grunter with prawns being a good live bait, and some people have also been catching them on large soft plastic lures. The main species around in the Burnett River at the moment are whiting, bream and flathead, with the odd jack and fingermark being caught also. There has been a small run of prawns and mudcrabs getting about.
The Isis Impoundment (Lake Gregory) is producing some good bass. Most have been caught by Spinnerbaiting around the weed edges.
Lake Monduran has turned it on this week with the warmer weather, with some good numbers of big barra being taken by fishing the weedy edges around most prominent points, as this is where the concentration of bait seems to be. Slow rolling soft plastics over the points seem to be a favoured method. Some big barra have been taken also on suspending hard-bodied lures. Trolling deep diving lures around the main basin of the dam has also produced some good numbers of big barra.
