on orders over $125Well, it looks like the weatherman is predicting a wet weekend around the Bundaberg area, with different models forecasting up to 20-30mm. Hopefully this rain event comes off, and helps the local farmers and tops up a few rain water tanks.
For anglers who don’t mind getting a little damp, the winds are predicted to drop out with Sunday being the better of the two days.
Last Sunday morning a mate and I went for a quick fish up the Burnett. We first started fishing the last of the run-out tide with soft plastics along Kirby’s Wall. We landed a few nice bream, heaps of estuary cod, moses perch and a few queenfish.
On the bottom of the tide we moved up further around Fairymead Bend, trying for a few salmon. It seemed that about twenty other boats had the same idea and I only saw a couple caught. We only managed a few grunter and bream.
There must have been a few prawns around because quite a few boats were cast-netting around the mouth of Rubyanna Creek and out further in the deeper water.
To finish our morning on the water we ventured up to the top of the river around Splitters Creek. We only managed one flathead and a nice little diamond trevally, which was a great way to finish that session.
It was great to see so many boats out on the water, but I have to say that the sea toads are still around in big numbers and destroyed enough of our plastics.
Good numbers of mackerel and queenfish are smashing through the massive amounts of bait fish in the mouth of the Burnett. Being close to home, and with the light winds predicted, this might be a good option for this weekend.
Even though the days have started to cool down, up at Lake Monduran the barra have been very active this week. The amount of small barra between 45cm and 50cm is fantastic. With a bit of luck the fish should be almost legal by the time the Monduran Family Fishing Classic comes around in October.
