The strong winds last weekend and earlier this week have prevented anyone from heading offshore and forced most to fish the dams and rivers. The rivers have produced some fantastic fishing with some awesome flathead being caught in the river mouths by trolling lures around the sand flats and by casting soft plastics along the rock walls. There have also been some nice bream and whiting caught.
There have also been some small school mackerel taken around the mouth of the Burnett. Try drifting with a floating pilly out the back or by trolling spoons or small diving minnows in chrome/silver colours. These mackerels are only small so be aware of their current size and bag limits.
Last weekend and early this week saw some nice barra caught at Monduran Dam so this is a good sign for the coming summer season. Most of the barra were caught on the timber Richo lures. This weekend also sees the Win Television Monduran Family Fishing Classic being held with even better prizes including a boat, motor and trailer worth $8,500 as the major prize. In addition to all these prizes, you can win $1,000 for the heaviest barra and another $1,000 for the heaviest bass. You have to be in it to win it. This is a fantastic family weekend with plenty of prizes for the kids too.
Most of the inshore areas out to the 15-Mile produced some big grass sweetlip, snapper,
