on orders over $125The weather around the Bundaberg area has been a bit mixed during the past fortnight or so. Earlier this week a few bigger boats had a small window of opportunity to sneak out wide and by all reports, most boats did very well. At this stage the weather looks good for most of next week.
The Burnett River, and particularly the town reach is fishing fantastic at the moment. Tackle World Bundaberg team member, Tim Mulhall and a local gun angler teamed up through the week and spent a few hours flicking lures at schools of bait that seemed to be everywhere. The two boys managed to catch seven different species of fish, including grunter, bream, trevally, queenfish, tarpon, flathead and some quality estuary cod. They both said it was one of the best fishing sessions they have had in a while. Other reports have been coming in of good flathead and some massive whiting fishing around the sand bars further towards the mouth on fresh yabbies.
The Kolan River is another hot spot that’s been fishing well. A mate and I fished the Kolan last Saturday and managed to catch a few flathead and nice trevally around the black bank at the mouth, and a few small jack while fishing the many rock bars throughout this system. The two hot soft plastics once again were the 4” Swimming Mullet in Gulp and the 4” MinnowZ from Z-man, rigged on ¼ ounce jig heads.
On the freshwater scene, Lake Monduran barra have been a bit tricky to tempt into biting in the past week. However, Rob from the Lake Monduran Holiday Park also runs Guidelines Charters on the dam and he reported hooking up at least one barra on every trip during the past week.
So, with a bit of luck the dam should fire up in time for the annual Win Television Monduran Family Fishing Classic to be held on the 18th and 19th of October. This is still one of the biggest fresh water competitions held in Queensland and is always a top family weekend.
