on orders over $125It’s been another week in paradise up in this part of the world. Hope all the kids have enjoyed the school holidays and the parents who had time off had a great break as well.
The Burnett River has still been producing some fantastic fish during the past week. Guys using live and well-presented dead baits have been hooking some massive fish recently. We have been hearing daily that the unstoppable fish have been ending up in bust-offs. These fish are likely to be large salmon, jewies, barra, mangrove jacks or even sharks. I saw a photo of a barra caught in the Burnett last weekend on a live mullet and I estimated it to be 30kg or over. A fantastic fish!
Tackle World team member, young Mitchell and a mate ducked out to some of the close inshore reefs last weekend and landed four top quality jewies on spin tackle using Jackall Tranzams and Shads Jew Candies. Both boys had a ball with lots of reel-smoking action.
Good reports have also come in from the Kolan River - extra large whiting caught on yabbies around the sandbars in the mid reaches of the river. Also some nice flathead and trevally caught around the mouth. Yandaran Creek is always good to explore to chase the few flathead, cod and jack that live near its numerous rock bars.
Lake Gregory is an awesome little bass dam out off the Childers Highway. The bass have been on the chew and anglers using spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits as well as soft plastics have been doing the damage. If you can get out there early, always try using surface lures, either poppers or walk-the-dog style lures. This is a great way to target bass and watch the bass hit your lures on the top.
This Sunday morning (5th October), Lake Gregory is hosting Round 9 of the Australian Bass Tournaments Bass Electric Series, between 7.00am and 1.00pm, so you can come out and see some of the best local freshwater fishermen in our region. You can also check out the ABT website at www.abt.org.au
