on orders over $125Hope everyone has enjoyed a fantastic Australia Day holiday last weekend, wherever you were around the Bundaberg region.
By all reports the fish are still biting well in the Burnett. The water colour is a little dirty due to the recent rain, but the fishing hasn’t been affected with a heap of mangrove jack, cod, bream and trevally patrolling all the major rock bars throughout the system. Tackle World Bundaberg team member Tim had a top session throwing soft plastics in the Burnett on Australia Day and catching a heap of fish, with the Zman StreakZ curlytails in the natural colour, and the new Keitech Crazy Flappers working like a treat.
The prawns have slowed a little bit but Splitters and Rubyanna Creeks are still worth a look towards the bottom of the tide top catch a feed.
The guys who ventured offshore last weekend all reported landing nice catches, including coral trout, sweetlip, hussar, cod, parrot and a few Spanish mackeral, and at this stage this weekend’s weather looks okay with light winds and a few light showers, so it might be a good chance again to fish the wider reefs.
Gary Leather and his boys experienced a fantastic session at Lake Gregory on Saturday afternoon. They fished from 3.00pm to 7.00pm and landed around 25 quality bass to 45cm. Spinnerbaits were working well early, cast to the weed edges, but the Jackall TN60 was the best performer for the afternoon. The bass seemed to come on the bite closer to dark with double hook-ups common. It’s great to see that the large bass are still being caught in this top little impoundment.
The water level in Lake Monduran has come up around 300mm and Rob from the tourist park has said that whilst there are a few barra being hooked, he believes that with stable weather patterns the fish should become more active.
Barra season opens again on the 1st of February at midday, so it will be a good chance to get you gear in tip-top condition ready to catch Australia’s No. 1 sport fish.
