on orders over $125This week has seen some good weather and bad. Earlier in the week saw some great offshore fishing in the Bundaberg area - for those who had, or could get the day off work.
Most anglers opted to head out wide and with the fish on the chew, most were very well rewarded. Big red emperor were a common catch. Using a large running sinker to a set of 9/0 or 10/0 hooks and large baits such as cuttlefish or fish flesh, fished hard on the bottom is the downfall for big reds. Other catches included big coral trout, snapper, big tusk fish (parrot), sweetlip and the usual mixed bag of reefies. Whilst bottom fishing a few people have put out either a livie or dead bait floating and have nailed themselves either a good Spanish mackerel, dolphin fish or big black king (cobia).
The inshore grounds have produced some excellent snapper fishing. Most of the snapper have been hanging mid-water cruising the reefy./rocky ledges. Using lightly weighted baits and drifting them down slowly has produced the goods. The soft plastics have been making their mark also on the big snapper. Plastics in the 4 to 7 inch sizes have been most popular fishing on ½ ounce jig heads that are slowly released to the bottom. Red jew and sweetlip have been by-catches to these methods.
The local rivers are still producing some red hot fishing. The big bream are about in good numbers with a lot being around the 1kg mark. Lures have been a fun way to catch these beauties. Soft plastics and small-bladed lures are hot favourites. Flathead are still around in good numbers, as well as some big whiting.
Some tailor and school mackerel are still around the river mouths. Trolling lures such as Spoons, Flashers and 4-5 inch diving Minnows have been best.
The Isis Impoundment (Lake Gregory) is still producing some great fishing with Blades being the hot favourite lures.
The barra fishing at Lake Monduran has come online a bit with soft plastics being the most used lures. Some magic fish have been caught with a good barra of 1.24cm being caught earlier in the week, by slow rolling a soft plastic around the weed beds. This has been by far the best method for big barra.
