on orders over $125Luckily enough we experienced a run of fantastic weather around the Bundaberg region last Friday and Saturday, and at this stage it looks like this weekend will be just as good. There is some rain predicted, but this should clear just in time for the weekend.
With the full moon on Monday night the fishing in the rivers and impoundments should fire up, but with the bigger tides there will be more run for the guys intending to go offshore.
Anglers who ventured out offshore last weekend all reported catching some awesome fish including coral trout, sweetlip, cod, red emperor and there are also spanish and school mackerel still hanging around in good numbers. The only downfall is the amount of sharks taking good fish halfway up to the boat, which is frustrating.
There are still good numbers of mackerel around the leads, the Two Mile and the Cochrane Artificial Reef. Most fish have been caught on metal slices and spoons retrieved at high speed, but it’s still worth floating out a pilchard or live bait on ganged hooks to catch one of those speedsters.
The Burnett River is still producing the goods. Lots of large flathead and bream have been caught during the cooler weather this week. There’s also a few good whiting, trumpeter, mangrove jack and blue salmon chasing the prawns and baitfish in the Burnett.
Lake Gregory is holding a round of the ABT Bass Electric Series on Sunday, 3rd May between 7.00am and 1.00pm. By all reports the dam is starting to clear up and is fishing well. Some of the bigger bass have been caught on spinnerbaits cast close to the weed edges. The schooled bass have taken blades and plastics in the deeper water. So, either join up or come on out and support our local bass anglers.
Lake Monduran’s barra have started to fire up with a lot of fish from around 50cm to one metre smashing suspended hard body lures cast around shallow points. The amount of smaller barra caught lately is great to see. Just goes to show that the fish stocking is working well and the dam should only get better as more fingerlings are released.
