on orders over $125Due to some ordinary weather, reef fishing in the Bundaberg area has taken a back seat with most people confined to the rivers and dams.
The local river mouths have produced some small tailor and school mackerel, and trolling small lures and floating pilchards have been their downfall.
The flathead have been on the chew and most have been caught on soft plastics. Using larger (4-5 inch) softies has been the trick on the bigger flathead, with pink plastics rigged on slightly heavier heads fished on the bottom.
There are still a few bream and whiting about also, and some big grunter have made their way up the creeks. There have been some monsters mixed in with them. Reports tell us of a 74cm grunter caught on a soft plastic during the week. To target grunter, fish a ball sinker to a swivel, a short trace to a 2/0 or 3/0 hook and a large bait such as mullet, prawn or sprat, or some imitation prawn lures.
In the local dams and impoundments, the bass are fishing well on Blades and Spinnerbaits. The barra are on the chew with most anglers opting to troll as the barra have moved down into the main basin and into some deeper water (15-20feet). Because of this, trolling has been a popular method.
For those anglers who want to cast, the points coming into the bays have been favourite spots. Barra sit on either side of the points and come up into the shallows to feed, so slow rolling soft plastics will be the go.
