on orders over $125Well, the warm weather has brought on the summer species in the Bundaberg area, with mangrove jack being a hot target.
Most of the holes and rockbars have produced some big jacks on live baits. Big prawns and poddy mullet have been the gun baits and the lure fisherman hasn’t missed out either. Prawnstars and 4-5 inch divers have been favourites. Other species caught using these methods have been cod, fingermark and the odd barra, but please be aware – we are now in closed season for barra, so any saltwater barra you catch must be released.
Flathead are still around in reasonable numbers, and have been taken by trolling small hot pink lures and throwing plastics. Bream and grunter are making their presence known as well. Some small school mackerel are still around the mouths of the local rivers.
The offshore fishing has been limited due to the poor weather, but on the odd good day trout, reds, snapper and cobia have been caught.
The local dams are still producing some red hot fishing, with the Isis Impoundment (Lake Gregory) showing some great surface lure fishing, early in the morning as the sun comes up, and spinnerbaiting the edges as the day gets on.
Monduran is again producing some big barra fishing. Barra up to 1.32 metres have been landed lately. Shallow diving minnows and large soft plastics are favourite lures. Most of the points are producing good fish for those casting lures. The guys trolling in the main basin are also catching some monster barra by trolling deep divers 15-20 feet down, with Barra Classics being hot favourites.
