on orders over $125This weekend it looks like it will be all systems go around the Bundaberg area for our local rivers and dams.
Unfortunately we will just have to wait and see what the offshore forecast shapes up to be.
There were mixed reports from guys who headed out wide last weekend. Most boats managed to at least get a feed, with the grounds further north of Burnett Heads seeing better numbers of reef fish caught.
The local inshore grounds are once again alive with mackerel on the top half of the water column, and good numbers of squire and snapper caught closer to the bottom. Both fresh baits and hard and soft Vibe lures are working well.
The big tides and the little bit of rain last weekend have stirred things up a bit. Some good sized grunter have made their way into the Burnett River. As the day-time temperatures rise it won’t be long before the red devils (mangrove jack) become more aggressive. Let’s hope that this jack season is as good as last year’s was.
With the full moon last Sunday night, some good quality whiting were caught with fresh yabbies and worms being the two best baits.
The bass in Lake Gregory have fired up with some red-hot surface action early. The Cultiva Zip ‘n’ Ziggy is one of my favourites, but most poppers are working well also. Try casting small blades, soft plastics and Spinnerbaits around the edges as the day warms up.
For fresh water anglers wanting to travel a little further, try Lake Cania near Monto. By all reports the bass, yellowbelly and saratoga have all fired up and the dam, whilst still at 100% full is fishing really well.
Some positive news from Lake Monduran is that the barra are starting to chew. I’ve heard of two reports last Friday afternoon with both boats hooking up to quite a few barra within a three to four hour window. Sounds like late afternoon sessions and suspending lures might be with a go this weekend.
