on orders over $125This week has seen the local rivers fire from the mouth to the upper reaches, with the mouth of the Burnett producing some great mackerel fishing – mainly school mackerel, but some are snodgers!
High tides early in the morning have produced best results and trolling lures has been the way to go. Four to six inch diving Minnows in blue or red heads with a white body has been the choice colours. The schoolies have also been caught by anchoring up and floating out pilchards or spinning with chrome lures.
Coming up the river, the grunter are still about in reasonable numbers. Mid-river in the Burnett seems to be the place to catch them, and the Kolan River and Baffle Creek have seen their share of grunter as well.
All the rivers are still fishing well for flathead with a lot being over the maximum size limit. There are still a few between 50-60cm, with small lures being a favoured method to target flathead.
Some of the deep holes and rock bars are producing good jacks and fingermark on live baits such as prawns and mullet.
There are still a few prawns about as well as a few mud crabs, so next time you head out, don’t forget the cast net and crab pots.
Lake Monduran is once again still producing some red hot barra fishing. Trolling the main basin is still giving anglers the bigger fish, with those casting lures to the shallow points and bays still being rewarded with some class sized fish.
