on orders over $125Well, Christmas is not very far away now. Unfortunately, Santa might have a bit of a wet and bumpy ride over the Bundaberg area on his annual trip this year.
At this stage showers and east-south-easterlies are predicted over the few days of the Christmas break.
Due to the forecast, it’s looking like any offshore action will be limited for the next week, but the good news is that the fishing and crabbing in our local rivers and creeks are producing the goods.
The Burnett River has been very busy with boat ramp under the old bridge full with trailers most days. There are good reports of some really nice mangrove jack being caught this past week. Most of the jacks were caught on baits such as mullet fillets cut into strips, and live prawns, sprat or poddy mullet all receiving the most attention.
Areas such as around the Tallon Bridge, Austoft Rocks, the hot water outlet and Kirbys Wall are all well worth a go.
It’s awesome to see the amount of legal grunter over 40cm caught recently. If last year is anything to go by, from now through to mid February, we will have some of the best sessions catching grunter up to 55mc on soft plastics over any gravel patches in the Burnett.
The Berkley Gulp 4” Swimming Mullet is a top soft plastic to target the grunter and flathead. They have a fantastic action and are one of the first lures I will tie on when targeting these species.
Lake Gregory is probably one of the most reliable bass impoundments at the moment. Heaps of bass are being hooked on many different techniques. Good news is a few really nice saratoga have been caught early mornings and late afternoons on surface lures. If you do manage to hook a saratoga, take a few quick photos and try to release them as these fish can breed in a dam, and in a year or two, hopefully this little dam will be better than it already is.
