on orders over $125In the local Bundaberg area, mackeral seem to be a hot topic at the moment with good numbers and good quality macks being caught.
The offshore grounds are producing some excellent spanish mackerel, and trolling large lures and rigged baits such as slimeys, gar and wolf herring have been the favoured methods.
For those with smaller boats, the mouth of the Burnett River has been producing a hot school mackerel bite. Trolling small diving minnows and floating pilchards is the best way to catch these guys. Also mixed in with the schoolies have been a few tuna, spotty mackerel and the odd Spanish.
The reefs have been a bit quiet due to the bad weather, so hopefully this will get better in the very near future.
The local rivers have been producing some excellent catches of late, with some good sized threadfin salmon (king), and live-baiting with sprat or big prawns have been their downfall. There is still a good mixed bag of other estuary species being caught such as whiting, bream, flathead and some good sized thick lip bream. Fishing the holes and rocky areas has also seen some good jacks being caught.
Lake Monduran has produced some hot and cold fishing with most anglers catching big barra by trolling the edges of the main basin with deep diving lures in the 15-20 feet depths. Casting for barra has also resulted in some good sized fish. Targeting the points leading into any of the bays, and casting soft plastics and slow rolling them back in should score well.
