First of all, I’d like to say that I hope you all had a very merry Christmas and I wish you a safe and happy New Year.
I hope you now have plenty of new toys to play with because the fishing around the Bundaberg area is red hot in both the estuaries and offshore.
Most of the islands and atolls are producing big trout and red throat sweetlip.
The shelf is producing some snapper, pearl bream and job fish.
The gutters are producing parrot, sweetlip, hussar and some good spanish mackerel.
The inshore reefs such as the Cochrane Artificial have been producing some big grunter and some school mackerel.
The local rivers are producing some top quality fish. Plenty of jacks, grunter and big king salmon have been caught, mainly on lures. Blades such as Deka Bokuns and Jackall Tranzams have been the best.
There are still plenty of flathead about the Burnett River with soft plastics being a favourite.
The local beaches have got dart, whiting and some big jew/mulloway with fresh live beach worms being the best baits.
There are plenty of mud crabs about so dust of the crab pots and have a go.
Enjoy your break, play it safe on the water and we’ll see you in the New Year.
Till next time,
Tim Mulhall
