on orders over $125Last weekend saw a break in the weather and a lot of boats headed offshore. With perfect tides most were well rewarded with the islands producing reds, trout and big redthroat sweetlip.
The Warregoes produced trout, parrot and hussar. The Gutters turned it on as well with some monster trout on livies and parrot and sweetlip all being caught.
There has been a small run of small spanish mackerel on most of the areas mentioned above by trolling large baits such as slimeys and bonito.
The local rivers and creeks are fishing well, especially for mangrove jacks. Most rocky areas are producing some great jacks, mainly on live prawns and mullet.
There are still some good grunter about, but please be aware of current size and bag limits on grunter.
Also, please be aware of the current barramundi closure in salt waters. Until midday on the 1st of February, you are not allowed to target barramundi in the salt and all saltwater barra that you do catch must be released.
The flathead are still about in good numbers, with hot pink soft plastics being favourite bait.
Time to dust off the cast nets as well as there has been a good sprinkling of prawns about and well worth the effort.
There is also a reasonable amount of mud crabs about, so don’t forget to take your pots next time you’re out.
The Isis Impoundment (Lake Gregory) is fishing well for bass. Some of our regulars caught a good number of big bass during the week by casting Spinnerbaits to the weed edges
