Fish Report - 29th May 2013

Well, the past week saw some ordinary weather around Bundaberg, and the strong winds offshore meant that the big boats would stay home, so any fishing done during the week has been in the rivers and creeks. However, some great reports were given from most systems.

Baffle Creek produced some great catches of big grunter, and the odd salmon and jack were also caught.

The Kolan River also fished well with whiting and flathead coming from around most of the sand flats. Trevally and queenfish and the odd barra have been caught around the new mouth of the Kolan.

The Burnett River has been producing a great run of big bream and they have been some of the biggest and best we have seen in years. Most of the bream have been caught around the rocks, with Kirby’s Wall being a hot spot. Baits such as chook gut and large peeled prawns have been favourites, and a few anglers have been catching the big bream on soft plastics as well.

The Elliott River has been a hotspot for whiting with good numbers and good sized whiting – to 40cm – being caught regularly on yabbies and worms as bait.

Some good sized trevally and queenfish have also been caught in the Elliott using surface poppers. These have been great sportfish.

There have been plenty of crabs about, so it’s been well worth putting the pots in.

Bass out at Lake Gregory have been on the chew with early morning sessions being best. Bass have been nailing dark coloured poppers worked slowly around the lily pads, and as the sun rises a bit, spinnerbaiting around the weed edges has also produced some big bass.

Till next time,
