Fish Report – 27th June 2013

Last weekend saw some fantastic fish caught in the annual VMR Family Fishing Classic at Burnett Heads.
Although the weather/wind wasn’t exactly overly kind for the offshore fishermen, a lot of boats headed out wide.

Even though the tides were big a lot of fish were caught, including some monster red emperor, massive coral trout, sweetlip and parrot along with cobia, spanish mackerel and yellowfin tuna as well.

A lot of the inshore reefs also produced some great fish such as big grunter along with some nice sized snapper being caught as well.

The local estuaries and creeks also produced some fantastic fish. Some top quality whiting, bream and flathead were caught. Some of the deeper holes produced some big grunter, cod, jack and a few salmon, both blue and king.

Other reports show a number of prawns and crabs about – strange for this time of year, but there seems to be plenty there.

A few reports have come in from Lake Monduran during the week, with the northern arm of B section producing a few good sized barra. Small suspending hard body lures seem to the go on these feisty little barra with the Jackall Squirrel Hank being a hot favourite.

Till next time,
