on orders over $125The weather in the local Bundaberg area has been unpredictable for the offshore fishing over the past few weeks, with the best weather coming during the week. This is good for those anglers with flexible hours and/or time off, but for the rest of us, we will just have to wait till the next bout of calm weather.
Those who managed to get offshore during the week scored some great catches. The offshore gutters produced some great trout fishing. Big reds, snapper and sweetlip were also caught by using live baits.
The inshore reefs produced some great snapper and sweetlip fishing, with lightly weighted baits slowly drifted back to the bottom picking up the best results.
The fresh is starting to settle in the local rivers and the fishing is excellent. Bream, whiting and flathead have been the dominant species. The sand flats have produced the best whiting and flathead fishing. The whiting have been taken on worms and yabbies, while the flathead have been caught mainly on soft plastics jigged around the drop-offs.
The beaches have been producing some great dart and tailor fishing with early mornings being the best times to catch a tailor.
The local dams are starting to fish well for bass with the bigger bass coming from the deeper areas of the dams, and most of them being caught on blades or soft plastics.
The barra in Lake Monduran are still a bit tough to tempt but fishing a wind-blown bay with soft plastics or shallow diving lures should entice a big barra to have a go. Using 10-15 foot divers trolled a long way back from the boat is still producing the odd big barra as well.
