on orders over $125This week has seen some ups and downs in the weather. Early in the week, we saw some ordinary wind with it backing off for a good calm weekend. A few bigger boats headed offshore midweek and most caught a good bag of mixed reefies. Some big coral trout were caught using live baits. Squid baits were also working.
Big reds, snapper, sweetlip and parrot were all caught and there are still good numbers of Spanish mackerel around. Try trolling big diving and high speed lures or for those who like big baits, try trolling gar, slimies and bonito to land you a spanish for sure.
The Artificial reef and the Two Mile have been producing some excellent late afternoon bites with some large snapper to 6 and 7kg being caught. Flat lining has been a preferred method. Float lining is just using small weighted rigs and slowly feeding it out to the bottom. 9 out of 10 times it won’t make the bottom before being slammed by a big snapper.
Around the river mouths there are good numbers of trailor and winter whiting. Please beware of the new bag and size limits of these species. While there is no legal size for winter whiting there is a bag limit of 50 and tailor is now 35cm with a bag limit of 20.
The rivers are producing good numbers of big bream and whiting. The sand flats are producing some great flathead, especially on soft plastics that are being jigged around the drop offs.
There is still a small run of mud crabs as well as a good number of prawns getting about in most of the river systems.
Because of the recent cooler winds, barra fishing has slowed down considerably. Best bets to find a big barra will be by slow trolling some shallow diving lures in a shall wind blown bay. Try the good old B52’s or a lightly weighted soft plastic.
