on orders over $125Due to rough weather around the Bundaberg area this past week there has been no offshore action, so most of the fishing has been confined to the local river mouths and estuaries.
The fishing around the river mouths has been exceptional with reports of small school mackeral, tailor and winter whiting around the channel markers of the Burnett River. The mackeral and tailor have been caught by trolling small deep diving hard bodied lures in natural baitfish colours. The winter whiting have been taken by drifting the channel using yabbies, squid and Berkley Gulp plastic worms.
Some of the sand flats further up the river have been producing some summer whiting and good catches of large flathead. The summer whiting have been caught mainly on yabbies and worms, while the flathead are taking a liking to lures - small diving hard bodies in pink colours. Soft plastics have been taking their fair share as well.
There is still a reasonable run of bream along the rock walls throughout the river. Most being taken on either prawns or mullet fillet for bait.
The deeper sections of the river are producing a few grunter and plenty of blue salmon. Large live prawns seem to be the preferred bait to catch these guys.
The best way to put a live prawn on your hook is to place the hook through the second or third tail segment and have the prawn hanging downwards off the hook, rather than feeding your hook up the body of the prawn. This usually won't kill or affect the prawn and it will have a nice lively action to attract the fish.
There is still a small run of banana prawns in the river as well as a few mud crabs, so it would be worth taking a cast net and a few crab pots.
Lake Monduran has been producing a few barra, but most anglers are fishing long and hard to get results due to the cooler weather. Soft plastics have been the preferred lure.
Bass in the Isis are on the improve with some large fish being caught on surface poppers early in the morning.
