on orders over $125Well, it’s been great to see some rain with some good falls around the Bundaberg area during this week. This has put the river into a bit of a spin as a lot of fresh from upriver is now washing down and the upper part of the Burnett is not only fresh but very dirty.
This can make things a bit harder for the anglers, but by fishing around you can score some good catches with bream being a target species in the dirty water, using prawns and mullet as bait. For the lure fishermen, the bream have been taking small blade lures. The blades have a really good vibrating action that just seems to turn the bream on.
The local river mouths have been producing some great flathead fishing, with soft plastics being hot favourites.
On the top of the tides around the river mouths, the water is nice and clean and the school mackerel have been on the chew. Floating out a pilchard and trolling lures have been tempting these fish. Lures with blue and black backs have been deadly on the macks.
The reef fishing has been a bit slow but on the good calm days, snapper, trout, cod and a few reds have been caught. Some of the wrecks offshore have produced some cobia and spanish mackeral as well.
The bass in the dams have been caught in reasonable numbers with an early morning surface bite on poppers, and during the day Spinnerbaits and Blades have been doing the trick.
Lake Monduran fired before the rain with some big barra being caught on soft plastics and suspending hard-bodied lures. The barra seem to be hanging around the drop-offs to the main creek beds of the dam, so fishing your lures in 10-15 feet on the drop-offs should give best results.
