on orders over $125The rains earlier this week in the Bundaberg area have made our local rivers run fresh again. This fresh will sweeten up the water and this is a bit of a downfall as the river was just starting to come good.
However, the fishing has still been okay with bream and grunter being the most talked-about species. The rock walls have produced the best catches of bream and sizes up to 40cm have not been uncommon. Chook gut and mullet cubes have been the best baits. The lure anglers have been getting their fair share also. Slow rolling small 35cm to 45cm deep diving hard bodies lures with rattles have been the best in the off-coloured water.
Gig grunter to 60cm have still been caught throughout the rivers as well as the odd jack.
The beaches have been producing some great fishing as well, with some big whiting and dart being caught as well as a small run of early season tailor. The tailor are of average size but will get bigger as things cool down. Pillys were the best bait for the tailor.
There is still a run of prawns around, and they are small but the next few weeks should see them improve.
Bass in the Isis Impoundment (Lake Gregory) have also picked up with a lot being caught on surface lures late afternoon. Bass to 47cm have been caught by using this method.
The barra at Lake Monduran have been slow due to the dam rising and overflowing with the floods, but a few anglers who have put in the effort have caught barra. Most have been caught in the main basin.
