on orders over $125Hope everyone enjoys the Easter break ahead. It was good to see that most areas around Bundaberg received some welcome follow up rain to top up the rainwater tanks and help the farmers.
In the next week the weather looks really good after Cyclone Ita has moved south. The winds are expected to ease in a south-easterly direction which opens up all forms of fishing opportunities.
The hot topic of conversation all week has been the quantity of pelagic species all along the local coastline. Good numbers of spotty and spanish mackerel have been caught from Burnett Heads right through to Hervey Bay, with the Cochrane Artificial and the Woodgate Artificial reefs being two of the hot spots.
Just before this latest weather event, young Lachlan Devlin and a few of his mates landed some nice fish about 25 miles out with a mixture of nice reef fish and a good Spanish mackerel. Well done lads!
All of the local estuaries continue to produce the goods. The Elliott River is worth a go. Two young local lure anglers had a ball and managed to capture all the species they targeted in their section which started further up the system. They landed numerous cod, bream and a nice jack on both soft plastics and suspending hard-bodies. Later in the day the boys moved closer to the mouth targeting flathead on soft plastics and even had success using small top water lures for some nice whiting.
Rodger at Baffle Creek Caravan Park has reported that the Baffle is fishing extremely well. Down towards the mouth there have been reports of large queenfish and trevally smashing bait fish and also good numbers of flathead on lures and well-presented baits.
Further up the Baffle a few jacks and the occasional barra are being caught mainly by live-baiting. There are also some nice muddies starting to move in, just in time for Easter.
