Finally we’ve had a consistent run of good weather and a lot of boats headed offshore. Everyone was well-rewarded with some excellent catches, and most said they were the best catches for a while. Most anglers bagged out on reef fish such as coral trout, red emperor, hussar, parrot, sweetlip and a heap of other mixed bag reefies, with most species being some of the biggest anglers have seen in a while.
There was also plenty of pelagic action around the reefs with big spanish, cobia, and trevally all being reported.
Finally we’ve been graced with some great weather and last weekend a lot of big boats headed offshore and the fishing was excellent.
Everyone reported some great catches including some big red emperor to 15kg. There has also been heaps of coral trout, big sweetlip, cod, hussar, nannygai as well as heaps of pelagics, including spanish mackerel and big black king.
Because of the cyclonic weather recently, most anglers would not have had the chance to do much fishing at all, so I’ll take this opportunity talk about a competition I attended a couple of weeks ago.
The boys back at work were very envious that I drew the short straw, and the boss sent me off to compete and help out in the annual Baffle Creek Fishing Challenge, which was held over six days from Monday to Saturday.
Well, unfortunately the weather hasn’t let up and we have still been cursed with wind, rain and more wind.This means that we have been restricted to fishing the rivers, creeks and dams.
