Fish Report 16th July 2009
This week has seen some good weather and bad. Earlier in the week saw some great offshore fishing in the Bundaberg area - for those who had, or could get the day off work.
This week has seen some good weather and bad. Earlier in the week saw some great offshore fishing in the Bundaberg area - for those who had, or could get the day off work.
In the local areas around Bundaberg, we have seen a constant run of good weather that has allowed most of us to head to the offshore grounds.
The fishing has been red hot with most reef species being caught. Good numbers of coral trout, red emperor, sweetlip, cod, hussar and plenty more have been reported. Some of the deeper ledges have seen some schools of big snapper and big cobia. Spanish mackerel have also been caught in these areas.
Well, the cooler weather has definitely hit the Bundaberg region and this has given us a constant run of good weather recently.
Most boats have opted to head offshore and have been rewarded with some top catches. Plenty of coral trout, big red emperor, sweetlip, hussar, parrot and the usual mixed reefies have been taken. A few big black king have also made an appearance, and there are good numbers of Spanish mackerel hanging around most reefs.
Well, this week has seen some ups and downs in the weather.
With it being windy early in the week most of the fishing was done in the rivers and dams, with most of the rivers fishing very well. There weren’t many species that weren’t caught!
Finally we’ve had a consistent run of good weather and a lot of boats headed offshore. Everyone was well-rewarded with some excellent catches, and most said they were the best catches for a while. Most anglers bagged out on reef fish such as coral trout, red emperor, hussar, parrot, sweetlip and a heap of other mixed bag reefies, with most species being some of the biggest anglers have seen in a while.
There was also plenty of pelagic action around the reefs with big spanish, cobia, and trevally all being reported.
The windy weather lately has not been the best for anglers, and anyone who wants to toss in a line has been confined to the rivers once more.
Finally we’ve been graced with some great weather and last weekend a lot of big boats headed offshore and the fishing was excellent.
Everyone reported some great catches including some big red emperor to 15kg. There has also been heaps of coral trout, big sweetlip, cod, hussar, nannygai as well as heaps of pelagics, including spanish mackerel and big black king.
Fish Report
Because of the cyclonic weather recently, most anglers would not have had the chance to do much fishing at all, so I’ll take this opportunity talk about a competition I attended a couple of weeks ago.
The boys back at work were very envious that I drew the short straw, and the boss sent me off to compete and help out in the annual Baffle Creek Fishing Challenge, which was held over six days from Monday to Saturday.
With last weekend’s calm weather, the offshore fishing has fired up. Sunday, Monday and maybe Tuesday are looking the best for these this coming week.
