The Shimano Baitrunner D was built around the legendary drivetrain and auto-return Baitrunner feature that has made this series famous amongst live-bait anglers for decades. The Baitrunner system provides a secondary drag that allows anglers to feed out line in tension-controlled freespool with the bale closed, enabling the line to be fed out whilst the fish takes the bait and runs, all whilst maintaining line control with the bale closed. When the fish strikes, a simple turn of the handle seamlessly transitions from the Baitrunner to the main drag for a solid hookset. The Baitrunner D features better castability, better line lay, less backlash, fewer wind knots or tangles, and less friction on the line compared to its predecessors. The Propulsion Line Management System featuring the Propulsion Spool lip, S-Arm Cam, SR One-Piece Bail Wire, and Power Roller III work together to improve casting distance and reduce line management issues. Larger and more comfortable grips provide enhanced control during extended fights, whilst the higher maximum drag and wider range of Baitrunner settings give anglers more versatility when targeting species from small freshwater fish to large saltwater gamefish. The graphite frame and sideplate keep weight down, whilst the S A-RB shielded bearings provide corrosion resistance and the Dartainium II drag washers ensure smooth and reliable drag performance.
